A.A.'s "MAIN TAPROOT"
Recovery Einstein's Big Book perspective on the AA Daily Reflection for October 19.
The 'main taproot' of A.A. is the spiritual experience that results from working the Twelve Steps. On page 60, it says, 'The main object of the program is to enable you to find a Power greater than yourself.' That Power, once found, removes the obsession to drink and restores sanity. Without this root, the rest of recovery withers. The Steps are not optional decorations—they are the lifeline. On page 63, the Third Step Prayer asks for relief from bondage of self, and on page 84, the promises assure us that 'the feeling of uselessness and self-pity will disappear.' That transformation is the taproot. Everything else—meetings, service, fellowship—grows from that root. So today, ask yourself: Am I watering that root by taking the Steps every day? Or am I drifting into the shallows?
What specific Step or prayer has been the deepest root of your recovery today?
