A RESTING PLACE
Recovery Einstein's Big Book perspective on the AA Daily Reflection for May 8.
A resting place isn't about stopping the journey—it's about finding stillness in the midst of it. In recovery, we discover that true rest comes not from escaping life, but from surrendering our will to a power greater than ourselves. The Big Book promises a 'new freedom and a new happiness' [Page 83], and part of that freedom is the ability to quiet our racing minds. On page 87, it says, 'We relax and take it easy. We don't struggle. ... There is a resting place for our minds.' This isn't laziness; it's the profound peace that comes from trusting God with our lives, moment by moment. When we practice Step 11 daily—praying only for knowledge of His will and the power to carry it out—we find that our minds can rest, even when life is turbulent. The Promises aren't just ideals; they're the natural result of living this program: 'We will suddenly realize that God is doing for us what we could not do for ourselves' [Page 84]. That realization is our resting place.
Where in your life today could you pause, be still, and allow your mind to find its resting place in God's care?
