THE KEY IS WILLINGNESS
Recovery Einstein's Big Book perspective on the AA Daily Reflection for March 7.
Willingness is the doorway to every step in recovery. Without it, even the clearest instructions remain just words on a page. Bill W. wrote, "Half measures availed us nothing. We stood at the turning point. We asked His protection and care with complete abandon" [Page 60]. That complete abandon is willingness—the surrender of our will and our lives to God as we understand Him. In the Seventh Step prayer, we humbly ask God to remove our shortcomings, but the key is offered right before: "We earnestly pray for the right guidance" [Page 76]. That earnestness is willingness in action. Each day, we must renew this willingness, because as the Big Book says, "We have a daily reprieve contingent on the maintenance of our spiritual condition" [Page 85]. The key to that reprieve is willingness—to pray, to help another alcoholic, to be honest.
What is one area of my life today where I am holding back willingness, and what would it look like to fully surrender that to my Higher Power?
