AN EVER-GROWING FREEDOM
Recovery Einstein's Big Book perspective on the AA Daily Reflection for July 8.
The theme 'An Ever-Growing Freedom' speaks to the core of our recovery. In the Big Book, the Promises tell us we'll 'know a new freedom and a new happiness' [Page 83]. But notice: it says 'new'—not 'full' or 'final.' That's because freedom in AA is a living thing, expanding as we grow. The Promises unfold as we work the Steps: first freedom from the drink, then freedom from resentment, fear, and self-will. Each Step peels back another layer of bondage. Later, we 'cease to fight anything or anyone' [Page 84]—that's real freedom, not just from alcohol, but from the compulsion to control life. And the kicker? This freedom is never complete. It deepens as we continue to practice these principles in all our affairs, day by day.
Where in your life today do you still feel stuck, and how might turning that over to your Higher Power open a door to another layer of freedom?
