A NEW DIRECTION
Recovery Einstein's Big Book perspective on the AA Daily Reflection for July 5.
A new direction is at the heart of our recovery. The Big Book tells us 'we are going to know a new freedom and a new happiness' [Page 83] when we stop fighting everything and instead let a Higher Power guide our lives. This isn't about just stopping drinking—it's about a complete change in how we think and act. On page 63, the Third Step Prayer asks for God's direction, saying 'I pray that you now remove from me every single defect of character which stands in the way of my usefulness to you and my fellows.' That's the new direction: away from self-will and toward service and connection. Every day we choose to follow this path, we find that our old ways of fear and resentment lose their power. The Promises on pages 83-84 aren't just for newcomers—they renew themselves daily as we keep walking in this new direction.
What is one area of your life today where you can let go of your own plan and ask for a new direction from your Higher Power?
Start each day with Einstein's Big Book perspective — a quiet moment before the world gets loud.
