THE BEST FOR TODAY

Recovery Einstein's Big Book perspective on the AA Daily Reflection for July 1.

Recovery Einstein

In recovery, the phrase 'the best for today' reminds us that we don't need to figure out our whole lives at once. The Big Book says we have a 'daily reprieve' contingent on our spiritual condition [85]. That means we only need to stay sober and do the next right thing for today. Yesterday's mistakes are off our shoulders; tomorrow's worries aren't here yet. As it says on page 83, 'We will see that our new attitude toward liquor has been given us without any thought or effort on our part. It comes! That is the miracle of it.' We simply show up today, work the program, and trust that God will do for us what we cannot do for ourselves. The best for today is letting go of the illusion of control and focusing on this one day's journey.
