DAILY MONITORING

Recovery Einstein's Big Book perspective on the AA Daily Reflection for October 7.

Recovery Einstein

Daily monitoring is like taking the spiritual pulse of your sobriety. The Big Book tells us that we must ‘continue to take personal inventory and when we were wrong, promptly admitted it’ [Page 84]. This isn’t a once-in-a-while checkup; it’s a moment‑by‑moment awareness of our thoughts and actions. We are promised that ‘we will intuitively know how to handle situations which used to baffle us’ [Page 84], but that intuition only comes through consistent daily practice. Remember, ‘we are not cured of alcoholism. What we really have is a daily reprieve contingent on the maintenance of our spiritual condition’ [Page 85]. So every morning, we ask: How am I doing right now, with my Higher Power, with others, with myself? That’s the monitoring that keeps us sober.
