A SENSE OF BELONGING

Recovery Einstein's Big Book perspective on the AA Daily Reflection for November 10.

Recovery Einstein

For someone in recovery, a 'sense of belonging' means discovering you are no longer alone. The Big Book describes how we once isolated ourselves, convinced we were different. But in AA, we find 'a fellowship of men and women who had found the way out' [Page 29]. We realize that we share a common problem and a common solution. This belonging is practical: we are welcomed without judgment, and we learn to rely on each other. As it says, 'We are not fighting alone, but together' [Page 102]. This sense of connection becomes a cornerstone of our new life, replacing the lonely despair of active alcoholism.

Something to sit with

Think of a time when you felt completely alone in your drinking. How does knowing you are part of a worldwide fellowship of people who understand you change how you see your recovery today?
