OVERCOMING SELF-WILL
Recovery Einstein's Big Book perspective on the AA Daily Reflection for March 3.
Self-will is the engine of our old way of living. The Big Book tells us that self-will run riot was the root of our troubles [Page 62]. In recovery, overcoming self-will isn't about crushing our personality—it's about learning to rely on a Power greater than ourselves. On page 60, we read that we had to 'cramp our style' and stop trying to run the show. The real victory comes when we turn our will and our lives over to God as we understand Him [Page 63]. This is the heart of the Third Step. When we stop fighting and start trusting, we find a peace that self-will could never give us. The Promises on pages 83-84 are the fruit of this surrender—freedom, happiness, and a new way of living.
In what situation today are you still trying to control the outcome, and what would it look like to surrender that control to a Higher Power?
