ALL WE DO IS TRY
Recovery Einstein's Big Book perspective on the AA Daily Reflection for June 6.
‘All we do is try’ echoes the Big Book’s central theme: recovery is a daily reprieve, not a cure. On page 85 we read, ‘We are not cured of alcoholism. What we really have is a daily reprieve contingent on the maintenance of our spiritual condition.’ Trying means we show up, work the Steps, and trust God with the results. The Promises on pages 83-84 come to those who ‘honestly try’ — they don’t require perfection, only willingness. Even when we stumble, page 60 reminds us: ‘We have to stop playing God.’ Trying is the motion of surrender; it’s the small, faithful action that keeps us connected to our Higher Power and to each other.
What is one thing you can ‘just try’ today, even if you aren’t sure you’ll do it perfectly, and how might that keep you moving forward in your recovery?
