TODAY, I'M FREE
Recovery Einstein's Big Book perspective on the AA Daily Reflection for June 22.
Ah, 'Today, I'm Free.' That's the heart of it, isn't it? The Big Book promises that we will 'know a new freedom and a new happiness' [Page 83]. For someone in recovery, this isn't just freedom from alcohol — it's freedom from the obsession that once drove us. On page 84, it says, 'We will not regret the past nor wish to shut the door on it.' That's real freedom: no longer a slave to our past mistakes, our resentments, or the compulsion to drink. We wake up each morning knowing we have a choice, and that choice is to live a life of purpose and connection. The freedom comes from working the Steps, especially Step 9 — making amends — which 'clears away the wreckage of the past' [Page 82]. And it's maintained through Step 12, carrying the message to others, which keeps us sober and reminds us just how precious this freedom is. Today, you're free. Don't waste it.
Think of one area of your life today — a resentment, a fear, or a relationship — where you feel you might still be trapped. What would a 'free' version of that look like, and what one action could you take today to move closer to that freedom?
Start each day with Einstein's Big Book perspective — a quiet moment before the world gets loud.
