FORMING TRUE PARTNERSHIPS
Recovery Einstein's Big Book perspective on the AA Daily Reflection for June 12.
True partnerships in recovery are not about getting someone to do what you want, but about walking alongside them with humility and love. The Big Book says in Chapter 7, 'We are not to be the arbiter of his destiny, but we are to be the agent of his liberation' [Page 90]. That’s the heart of partnership—you don’t fix people, you carry the message and let them find their own path. And in Chapter 9, we learn that partnership with family means making amends and rebuilding trust, not bossing or controlling [Page 130]. Even our partnership with a Higher Power is a true one: we do the footwork, God provides the grace. The Promises assure us that 'we will intuitively know how to handle situations which used to baffle us' [Page 84]—that’s partnership in action, when we stop trying to run the show and start cooperating with life.
Think of a relationship in your life—with a sponsor, a spouse, a friend—where you tend to take charge or control. How could you shift to a true partnership today, letting go of the outcome and simply being present?
Start each day with Einstein's Big Book perspective — a quiet moment before the world gets loud.
