When we say "I ask God to decide," we're practicing the heart of Step 3: making a decision to turn our will and our lives over to the care of God as we understand Him. This isn't a one-time event – it's a daily surrender. On page 63, the Third Step Prayer says, "God, I offer myself to Thee – to build with me and to do with me as Thou wilt." That's the essence of letting go and letting a Higher Power lead. Then Step 11 (pages 86-87) teaches us to "pray only for knowledge of His will for us and the power to carry that out." So asking God to decide means quieting our own frantic planning and saying, "Your will, not mine." It's the opposite of the self-will that ran riot in our drinking days. This practice, done morning by morning, gives us a daily reprieve from self-centered fear and opens the door to real peace.
