GRATEFUL FOR WHAT I HAVE

Recovery Einstein's Big Book perspective on the AA Daily Reflection for July 18.

Recovery Einstein

Gratitude is the foundation of a sober life. The Big Book promises that as we work the Steps, we 'will not regret the past nor wish to shut the door on it' [Page 83] — not because the past was good, but because we can see how it led us to recovery. This gift of perspective is something we receive, not earn. On page 85, it says: 'We will see that our new attitude toward liquor has been given us without any thought or effort on our part. It just comes!' That miracle deserves thanks. Gratitude for what we have — a daily reprieve, a new way of living, a fellowship of support — keeps us humble and willing to carry the message.
