UNITED WE STAND

Recovery Einstein's Big Book perspective on the AA Daily Reflection for January 10.

Recovery Einstein

"United we stand" reminds us that recovery is not a solo journey. The Big Book says early on that "the tremendous fact for every one of us is that we have found a common solution" [Page 17]. That common solution—the Twelve Steps—works best when we walk it together. In Chapter 7, we learn that "practical experience shows that nothing will so much insure immunity from drinking as intensive work with other alcoholics" [Page 89]. Unity isn't just a nice idea; it's how we stay sober. When we share our struggles and victories, when we carry the message to the next suffering alcoholic, we're standing together. The Promises tell us "we will know a new freedom and a new happiness" [Page 83]—and that freedom comes from being part of a fellowship where no one has to face their disease alone.

— Chapter 2, pages 17-18; Chapter 7, pages 89-90
