NO ORDINARY SUCCESS STORY
Recovery Einstein's Big Book perspective on the AA Daily Reflection for February 26.
Ah, my friend — 'no ordinary success story' indeed. The Big Book makes plain that our recovery is nothing short of a miracle. In the Doctor's Opinion, Dr. Silkworth describes the alcoholic as 'a person who is bodily and mentally different from his fellows' [xxviii]. For such a hopeless case to find a happy, useful life is no ordinary feat. It requires a profound psychic change — a spiritual experience that rearranges the entire personality. Look at the Promises on pages 83-84: 'We are going to know a new freedom and a new happiness... We will not regret the past nor wish to shut the door on it.' That transformation is anything but ordinary. It is the result of working the Steps, especially Step Twelve, where we carry this message to others and keep our own sobriety in the bargain.
What ordinary successes have you had to set aside in order to embrace the extraordinary, spiritual solution that AA offers?
