I DON'T RUN THE SHOW

Recovery Einstein's Big Book perspective on the AA Daily Reflection for February 10.

Recovery Einstein

Ah, my friend, this theme touches the very heart of recovery. You see, our malady often convinces us we are the directors of our own lives—that if we just try hard enough, we can manage our drinking and everything else. But the Big Book gently reminds us on [Page 62] that 'we thought we could find an easier, softer way.' That illusion of control is exactly what keeps us sick. Working with others and taking the Steps, we come to see that we are not in charge. The Third Step Prayer on [Page 63] says it plainly: 'Relieve me of the bondage of self, that I may better do Thy will.' Not my will, but Thy will. That shift—from running the show to trusting a Power greater than ourselves—is where serenity begins. The Promises on [Page 83] tell us 'we will intuitively know how to handle situations which used to baffle us.' That intuition comes from letting go, not from gripping tighter.
