A PRICELESS REWARD
Recovery Einstein's Big Book perspective on the AA Daily Reflection for December 17.
When we speak of 'a priceless reward' in recovery, we're talking about the transformation described on pages 83-84. The Big Book promises 'we will know a new freedom and a new happiness' — a reward that money can't buy. It's the moment we realize that 'we will not regret the past nor wish to shut the door on it' (page 83). That release from guilt and shame is truly priceless. This reward comes not from trying harder, but from 'having had a spiritual awakening as the result of these steps' (page 60). It's the daily reprieve we receive by working the program — a gift we must renew each day. As it says on page 85, 'We are not cured of alcoholism. What we really have is a daily reprieve contingent on the maintenance of our spiritual condition.' That continuing freedom is our priceless reward, earned one step, one meeting, one honest inventory at a time.
What is one 'priceless reward' you have received in your recovery that you would never trade for anything?
