CRYING FOR THE MOON

Recovery Einstein's Big Book perspective on the AA Daily Reflection for April 4.

Recovery Einstein

Crying for the moon — that's the alcoholic's dream of drinking like a normal person. On [Page 30], the Big Book calls this 'the great obsession' that every alcoholic has. We think someday we'll control our drinking, enjoy it like others do. But that's like asking for the moon. It doesn't exist for us. Recovery means letting go of that fantasy. Instead, we find a new freedom and happiness on [Page 84] — not by getting what we want, but by accepting reality and living in God's will. So if you're crying for the moon today, maybe it's time to open your hands and receive the sunrise.

— Chapter 3, pages 30-31; Chapter 6, pages 84-85
Something to sit with

What 'moon' — what impossible hope or self-deception — are you still reluctant to let go of, even for a day?
